Operation Gratitude

After Halloween, we ended up with loads of extra candy. I had no idea what to do with the excess until I found out about Operation Gratitude. It's an awesome program where you can send your extra candy to American soldiers. The boys (willingly!) cleared out their treat bags and we filled up this box with three pounds of candy to donate.
Will even wrote a letter to the soldiers and we threw in some toothbrushes and toothpaste to keep their teeth healthy after all the sugar.
Both boys signed the letter
and this morning, Henry and I took our care package to PostNet to mail it off. When the PostNet employee heard that the package was for American soldiers, he mailed it for me at no charge to me. Thank you, PostNet!After clearing out all the candy, the boys came home from Sunday school with bags for our church's food drive.
We set right to work clearing out our pantry but surprisingly didn't find too much in there. Henry and Gene went to the store to load up on canned veggies and we filled up those bags. The boys have had so many opportunities lately to help others in need through their schools (food and shoe drives), church and at home. We couldn't be happier that the boys are learning at a young age that not everyone is as fortunate as we are and that we are lucky enough to be in a position to give. In the weeks preceding Thanksgiving, I can't think of a better lesson to teach my boys.
