February 2021 Recap

February was a tough month and one we'll never forget, thanks to #snowpolcalypse and losing power for 45 hours during a hard freeze.

Here's a look at February:

The first weekend in February was lovely, so we went hiking on our favorite trails in Seabrook.

So many water birds!

Lunch from Monument Inn at Juan Seguin Park

Snickers

The next weekend was Valentine's Day. We had a nice dinner and coconut cream pie for dessert.

And then we woke up on February 15 to SNOW.

It was cold and snowy, unlike any snow I've seen in Houston.

Henry was in seventh heaven.

Snow angels

Snuggly kittens

And then we lost power. We turned on our lanterns and the fire and bundled up.

The first night wasn't too bad because there was some residual heat, but the house got down to 48 degrees.

Gene baked some bread on the grill!

We had to grind our own coffee for the French press.

The kitties all found a sun spot.

Lots of game time.

The best spot was right in front of the fire.

Icicles on the rose bushes

More games!

More kitten pics

Henry managed to lose three teeth!

We finally got our power back on after 45 hours, and we were definitely lucky because we never lost water and our little city never had a boil water notice. We also didn't have any pipe damage, except for one leaking sprinkler pipe, which was only a minor inconvenience. Many people in Houston were much worse off. Still, I hope we never have to experience this again!

Gene made pizza and a dessert pizza one night. So good.

Another yummy dinner -- meat pie.

Though we were off from work and school for a week, it was definitely a stressful time! When I got back to work, I had to deal with burst pipes and a leaking roof in my library. There was minimal damage to books but we had fans and dehumidifiers in my library for an entire week.

Henry really likes cucumbers and eats them whole. Check out his shorts and t-shirt just a week after the freeze!

The final weekend of February was nice, so we went back down to Seabrook to hike.

Will and I went back home but Gene and Henry did some sailboat shopping.

And then we ended the weekend with a lovely virtual symphony gala. We had dinner from Tony's delivered to our house, got on a Zoom call with some folks from V&E and watched a little of the symphony on TV. It was delightful!

February 2021 was definitely a month we'll never forget!
