Captain Will

Will has been working on another big school project, Book Characters Come Alive, for the past two weeks. All the kids had to choose a book, pick a character to discuss, and figure out the main idea. Will chose his current favorite book, The Circus Ship by Chris Van Dusen, which is about a circus ship that sinks off the coast of Maine. The character he picked is Captain Carrington, the honest and sincere ship's captain.
After choosing the book, the kids had to either make a poster board, use a bag of props to retell the story, or write a letter to the librarian to convince her to buy the book for the school library. Even though he only had to do one, Will chose to do two options. He wrote his letter first. Did I mention that he loves to write these days? He wrote a great letter and if I were the school librarian, I'd definitely consider buying The Circus Ship!

Will's presentation is today, so he'll dress up as Captain Carrington to read his letter and act out the story with his bag of props. He practiced yesterday and wore his costume. This is the sailor suit Gene's nana made in the 70s. So cute!! We bought the sailor hat last weekend. My cute sailor tried out a bunch of poses for his camera-wielding mama... Will worked really hard on his project and went off to school this morning so excited about presenting.

Love this little sailor boy!
