Vermont 2013: Day 4

We spent our last full day in Vermont in Waterbury on what is known as "Enticement Alley." With well-known companies like Ben & Jerry's, Cabot Creamery, and Green Mountain Coffee as well as many small local companies, Waterbury was indeed an enticing place to visit!

We started off at Cold Hollow Cider Mill.

The boys and I love apple cider, so I couldn't wait to visit!

We were there on a Sunday and they weren't pressing cider that day, but they still had plenty for us to sample and buy.

We learned all about how cider is made, and that they make it year-round with apples from the previous fall's harvest.

We enjoyed the apple cider outside

with apple cider donuts! They were so good!

Our next stop on Enticement Alley was the Ziemke Glassblowing Studio where the glassblower was busy making Christmas ornaments.

We were enticed and came away with a bag of goodies, including a new ornament for our tree.

The boys were enthralled!

We learned all about glassblowing from the sign on the wall. The boys loved learning that the glass is heated to 2100 degrees Farenheit and when it cools, it has to stay at 900 degrees for quite awhile so it doesn't crack.

Next we visited Danforth Pewter, Lake Champlain Chocolates, and Cabot Creamery. We were enticed at all three places!

After lunch back at the Cider Mill, we stopped at Green Mountain Coffee, which we had been drinking all week at our hotel. They have a visitor center and cafe in this historic 1875 train station, which is still in use!

We learned all about how coffee is made from one of the company's tasters. It was fascinating and so informative!

Our last stop in Waterbury was at Ben & Jerry's.

I think it is funny that we visited Ben & Jerry's yet the boys and I still haven't been to Bluebell!

The boys loved the tour, which was full of bad cow jokes (Why does a dairy stool only have three legs? Because the cow has the udder!) and samples of ice cream. Compared to everything else we'd done in Waterbury, it felt very big and commercial but it was still fun.

One of the best parts was the visit to the Flavor Graveyard, where unpopular flavors go to rest in peace.

Henry was so sad that some of the flavors, like this Wild Maine Blueberry, are no longer made. Do not fear, though, because every once in awhile, flavors are resurrected as zombie flavors. This year, you can find Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz and White Russian at a store near you, but for a limited time only!

With our bellies full of ice cream, we headed back to Burlington to visit Echo Lake Aquarium.

It was fun to learn about the Lake Champlain region

and the views from the outside deck were spectacular!

We spent our last evening with Amber and Tom, playing with the cousins,

and making homemade pizza.

We enjoyed Vermont so much and look forward to future visits there!
