Maine 2013: Day 6

After arriving in Portland just in time for Grampa's delicious scallop dinner, we all slept well and woke up Tuesday, ready for another busy day!

Before breakfast, we spotted two skunks nosing around Gramma and Grampa's backyard and then we watched this busy little spider spinning her web in the morning light. She completed the whole thing literally before our eyes.

Our plan for the day included a hike, lobster rolls for lunch, and an afternoon trip to the Portland Children's Museum for the boys. Before our hike, Gramma and Grampa took us to see an osprey nest in Casco Bay. You know I love birds so this was a treat for me! These three are the babies. A nearby photographer told us they had just fledged the week before.

Gramma and Grampa suggested that we hike at Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park, just outside Freeport. There are numerous easy hikes through the woods and along the coast, where we saw another osprey nest. It was gorgeous!

After our hike, we had our first lobster rolls of the trip at Linda Bean's in Freeport. We spotted this quote on the way out. So perfect for Maine!

We did a tiny bit of shopping before visiting L.L. Bean to check out their stuffed moose and other animals. (This was also the spot where Henry picked up an armful of tiny splinters from a rough railing. Ouch!)

The day ended with a quickie visit to the Portland Children's Museum, where the boys loved playing and exploring.

And then it was back to Gramma and Grampa's to relax and enjoy a quiet evening!
