Maine 2013: Day 9

We woke up Friday morning to rain! We actually got really lucky with the weather on our trip. This was really the only rainy day we had, and the rest of the time we enjoyed beautifully sunny, mild days.

Instead of rattling around a big house with two very active boys and only a few toys, we decided to take the kids to the Maine Discovery Museum in Bangor, which is just about an hour away from Castine. Henry insisted up and down that he absolutely did not want to go to a children's museum, and then when he got there he absolutely loved it, of course!

The Maine Discovery Museum is a fun children's museum, but it's just a children's museum, so I only took a few pictures. The boys "drove" a truck,

investigated the human body,

and dug for fossils, among other things.

For lunch, we found the Sea Dog Brewing Company nearby. Gene and I love to try out local craft brews on vacation, so we shared a sampler tray of five different beers. Yum-o!

It was still raining after lunch, so I took the boys to see Despicable Me 2, which they loved, while Gene ran a bunch of errands, including finding yogurt for his mom (we had the brand name wrong so it was harder than it sounds!) and searching for a replacement bag for one of our car seat bags that broke on the way up.

After a kid-centered day in Bangor, we headed back to Castine just in time for a quick dinner and a town band concert at Emerson Hall. The boys love music but were tired and only lasted about 15 minutes.

We got the boys tucked in bed just before Mike and Jess and their kiddos arrived after a full day of flying. Once their kids were soundly sleeping, Gene, Mike and Gene Sr. headed out for a night on the town.

It looks like they had a good time!
