Summer Break: A Week in Cell Phone Pics

We are counting down to the beginning of the new school year but still trying to soak up every minute of summer. I snapped this picture last Sunday as the boys rode their bikes down to our park for a kindergarten playdate for Henry. We met some new friends but got caught in a surprise rain shower on our ride back home!

The boys were in a morning camp at the Houston Arboretum this week. The camp was called "Fun in the Sun." Check out the schedule! They absolutely loved it and can't wait to get in a kayak again soon.

We went shoe shopping this week too. The boys desperately needed new shoes before school starts up, but I was trying to hold off a few more days because I figured they could wear their old grubby shoes to camp at the arboretum. Unfortunately, Henry's shoes literally fell apart on Monday, so we were off to Stride Rite for some new kicks.

Check out their new shoes! The boys are now wearing the same size.

I snapped this picture of the boys after a morning at the arboretum. They came home with walking sticks and hiking backpacks and lots of new skills!

We were back at the library a couple days this week to grab some more books. On Wednesday, we happened to be there for their summer reading program "leftover craft" extravaganza. The boys got to make rain sticks, window clings, boomerangs and more. As an added bonus, we ran into friends at the library!

Henry also got his reading ribbon for reading 50 books this summer.

At home, Weezie made a new friend. This Siamese has been coming around for the past six months or so and Weezie usually hisses and gets all bent out of shape, but this week, they just relaxed together on the driveway.

I think this picture is supposed to show Henry's smoothie mustache, but it's hard to see.

On Friday, we had lunch at Berryhill with Gene before picking up a massive dragon pinata for Will's Harry Potter party. Love these little boys!

And speaking of the birthday bash, we had some serious excitement around here right before the party. On Friday night, a big storm blew through Houston with 70 mph winds. We lost power at 6 pm, and I kept thinking it would come right back on. We went to bed, still without power but positive that it would kick on sometime in the night. Needless to say, the power didn't come back on and we all spent a pretty warm night in our second-floor bedrooms. Thankfully, the storm blew in some wonderfully cool weather, for August, and we opened up the windows to let the breezes in.

At 7:30 on Saturday morning, we heard a knock at our door and were so excited to see the CenterPoint Energy guy... until he told us the transformer in the back was bad and it would be a couple more hours without power. At around 10:30, we had four trucks and 12 guys on our street and the closest cross street working to get power back on. The had to drive this machine through our driveway and into the backyard.

To get it in our backyard, they literally had to take down the gate that is between the driveway and the backyard. This machine was big and loud!

We watched them replace the transformer from our upstairs balcony. Henry proclaimed it the "awesome-est day ever," and I have to admit, it was pretty exciting.

The workmen were really nice and all wished Will a happy birthday.

And right at noon, three hours before the big birthday bash and 18 hours after losing power, we had lights and air conditioning again. There is never a dull moment around here!
