Gramma and Grampa joined us for the Houston Symphony's The Night Before Christmas concert at Jones Hall yesterday. As always, the pre-concert festivities were spectacular! The boys loved this huge gingerbread house. They really wanted to sneak a bite of it but had to settle for doughnuts instead. They tried out almost all the instruments at the instrument petting zoo. There was an amazing children's choir singing in the lobby and the concert itself was fantastic and engaging. The conductor dresses up for all the children's concerts; this year he was a Christmas ball. I wish I could have gotten a picture, but we'll have to settle for this musical reindeer from the lobby instead. After the concert, Gramma and Grampa treated us to lunch at Cafe Express at the MFAH. But first, we had to stop in and check out the gingerbread houses at Henry's school. The choir made 80 houses; 28 remained at noon when we got there. Henry's blue house was still there, so it came home with us (much to Gene's surprise!)Last night, we went to our first holiday party of season at my good friend Heather's house. Gene took a few pics with his phone for me. To start, check out the beer taps on the walk-in cooler in the garage. Heather's boyfriend, Joel, is a beer connoisseur and brews his own. Their house is like no other!
Heather knows I'm partial to New Glarus beers (you can only buy them in Wisconsin) so she brought out a couple just for us to taste. They were yummy, but Spotted Cow is still my favorite! One of their friends came wearing a kilt and carrying bagpipes! Yes, he played for us too! The best part of the night was spending time with some of my best girlfriends. Leigh was visiting from Seattle and we had lots to catch up on! Love these ladies. Heather is an amazing cook and had a table full of delicious food for everyone. The parting gifts were these gorgeous Christmas tree cookies. Can't wait to try one!Yesterday was busy and full, but it was the perfect way to kick off December!
