Space Aliens and a Handprint Safari

The boys' teachers put up new bulletin boards outside their classrooms last week. I am loving Will's space-alien-themed wall. Each student had to create and then write about an imaginary space alien friend. Let me introduce you to Will's alien. This is what he came up with: Meet my alien friend, Fry. He is from the planet Tatooine. He likes to drink egg juice and eat fire fruit. For fun, he plays rocket tag. If he came to Earth, I would teach him that nocturnal animals come out at night. (If you are a fan of Star Wars, you likely know that the planet Tatooine, in a binary star system, is the home of Luke Skywalker. About a month ago, scientists discovered a real planet that orbits two suns. The official name is Kepler-16b but everyone calls it Tatooine, including Will!)
What a fun assignment. The kids were so creative. Some of the girls had really nice aliens who came from the planet Pink and ate rainbows and stars (although, is destroying entire solar systems really a sweet thing for those aliens to do?).Henry's class is working on a unit on animals, so they kids made handprint/fingerprint animals for their handprint safari bulletin board. Henry made a snake. I snuck inside the classroom today to take a few other pictures of Henry's work. All the kids wrote what they liked about school. Can you see that Henry colored the school blue? No surprise there.
This is the family tree wall. Love it! Bulletin boards are new for us this year. It is so much fun to see my boys' work up on display.
