ArBOOretum

As promised, I took my boys to ArBOOretum at the Houston Arboretum this morning. Even though we are big fans of the Arboretum, we had never been to ArBOOretum before. It was one awesome festival and I can guarantee that we won't be missing it next year!

ArBOOretum started at 10am for members, so we went there pretty much straight from soccer. We didn't even take the time to change out of our soccer gear and just went as soccer players! The boys were so excited to ride the shuttle bus.As soon as we got our wristbands, we set out to explore the games. The boys went fishing and pretended they were migratory mammals making their way through these obstacles on their journey. After the games, we hit the Trick or Treat Trail. I loved this because the boys had to work (and learn!) to earn their treats. Here they went on a fox prowl to find fox food (berries, snakes, and mice).
At the Bobcat Balance stop, they had to balance on stumps to earn treats. At Weasel Way, they crawled through a tunnel to escape danger. After making our way through the eight trick-or-treat stations, the boys got their faces painted. Henry chose a pumpkin. Will got a cat face. Then the boys walked across a rope bridge as part of an obstacle course, found the petting zoo, rode the ponies, rode the train (in the coal car!),and went on a hayride. At lunchtime, we ran into two of our soccer buddies! Will was so excited to see his friends at ArBOOretum. We ended our visit in the main building, where the boys participated in the cake walk (Henry won!), touched a corn snake, and saw a live owl presentation. We spent well over three hours at ArBOOretum but still didn't see and do everything. The time flew by and we all had so much fun. This festival is a definite must-do in our book!
