Judith Viorst is one of my favorite children's authors. I used her books a lot when I taught fourth grade, so when I saw that Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day had been made into a play and was coming to Main Street Theater, I knew I had to get tickets!
The story is about a little boy who has a horrible day. Everything that could go wrong does. He has a cavity, his teacher doesn't like his drawing of an invisible castle, he gets gum in his hair.... and unfortunately, Will can relate to Alexander's bad day. He had his own no good day on Friday, when his thumb got crushed between a fast-moving wagon handle and a brick column. We ended up at the ER clinic, again. Fortunately there were no broken bones, but he did lose his thumb nail. OUCH!!
The whole point of the Alexander story is that even if you have a really terrible day, tomorrow is a new day and it's probably going to be better. So even though Friday really was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad afternoon for us, Saturday was awesome! Gene took Will to the science museum in the morning and Will and I enjoyed a special afternoon together at the play, which was amazing! We even went to the Restaurant with Fire for dinner afterwards.
Can you see Will's huge bandage in this picture?
Terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days are the pits, but at least our amazing days far outnumber the bad ones!
