DC: Day 2

Day 2 in DC was just as packed as day 1. Our hotel was within walking distance of the Smithsonian museums, so after breakfast, we walked down to the National Air and Space Museum. Henry has been fascinated with rockets ever since I bought him rocket jammies last winter, and Will has recently become intrigued by the planets and solar system, so this was a very fun museum for us. Of all the museums we visited, we saw the most here. Our first stop was to see the rockets, of course!
Henry was amazed by the rockets. I don't think he realized that they are so big!
Next we found a telescope. You were supposed to look for the moon, but I think you needed a bit more accuracy than we possessed at that moment.
After seeing the telescope, Will asked to find the room with buttons (ie, the hands-on area). He just loves to push buttons and explore! We found the very very packed discovery room, and it even had a plane the boys could climb into! Will was a very serious pilot.
Henry mostly climbed around the cockpit, so I'm not sure I'd trust him to fly a plane just yet! Did you notice that he's wearing his rocket shirt to the rocket museum?
We saw the Wright Flyer near the end of our visit. Gene and Will and I thought it was pretty cool, but you can tell that Henry was pretty worn out by then (even though it was only 11:30 in the morning!).
We ate lunch at the museum and Gene brought us ice cream cones.
Cutie-patootie!
Will stole my chocolate cone.
After the museum, we rested at our hotel for about 30 minutes before heading out to the baseball stadium. Our boys have never been to a ball game before, so this was a lot of fun, even though we weren't seeing the Astros play. Ironically, the only bit of rain we had on the whole trip was during the outdoor ball game!
We were in the cheap seats. It was a family fun day, so we got inexpensive tickets that included hot dogs, chips, and drinks. Due to the rain, we spent a fair bit of time in a covered area with picnic tables. The boys enjoyed watching the game. We made it through about 6 innings, so that's not too bad for our first outing. The Nationals lost, 6-4, to the Phillies, but that's okay. We mostly saw Phillies fans at the game anyway!
After the game, we spent the rest of the day just chilling in our hotel room. The boys skipped naps, and after a very very busy day, they were both pretty tired. Fortunately, we picked up a few new toys at the Air and Space Museum.Rockets, space shuttles and an astronaut suit. What more could our two little boys ask for? They brought a little bit of DC home to Texas!
