Memorial Day

Memorial Day is all about backyard cookouts, listening to baseball games on the radio, and of course honoring our soldiers who've fought for our freedoms.
This Memorial Day, Gene took the little boys out to get an American flag while I napped hard upstairs. We have the stand for a flag on our house, so of course we needed to get a flag! Will helped Daddy set it all up. Very patriotic, just like the rest of our neighborhood. We see lots and lots of American flags flying all over our 'hood!
Gene grilled hot dogs and veggies for dinner while listening to the Astros win (!) on the radio.

And Gramma and Grampa came over for dinner. Gene poured their beers into our glasses with cowhide holders, so they'll remember Texas when they are in Maine! While we were waiting for dinner, Will read for us and did a lesson in Hooked on Phonics (we are in the second Kindergarten set and Will is doing so well!). After dinner, Will, Gramma and Grampa played four games of war. Addition war, that is. Will is getting quite good at adding! He even noticed the pattern of wins: Will with 17 cards, Gramma with 18 cards, Will with 17 cards, Gramma with 18 cards. Poor Grampa didn't come close to winning a hand!Henry wasn't interested in addition war, but he did enjoy playing pirates by himself. Pirate hat, check. Spyglass, check. Pirate shirt, check.
Flags + fantastic food + family = Memorial Day perfection!
