The Weekend: Soccer, Fathers & Flashlights, and Kemah Boardwalk

From start to finish, our weekend was FULL. The boys both had soccer games on Saturday morning and boy, was it hot out!

Henry's game was at 9:30, and even then we were sweaty messes.

Will's game was next, at 11, and by then we were all just drenched. The high Saturday reached 90 degrees but the feel-like temperature was much hotter.

After soccer, we showered and cooled off at home before getting ready for Fathers and Flashlights 2013! Fathers and Flashlights is an urban camping adventure at West U Elementary to raise money for our parks. Half of the school's fields are reserved for tents while the other half has bounce houses, tie-dying t-shirts, a petting zoo, a rock wall, and fishing! Dinner, breakfast, and snacks are included and the highlight for the kids is running around with their friends after dark. It is such a fun event and one that our boys look forward to every year.

All the moms volunteer for two hour-shifts during the event, so I was there from 5:30-7:30 manning a bounce house. I snapped just a couple of pics of my boys having fun, despite the heat.

And just like last year, a cold front came through overnight, dropping the temperatures to the low 60s by Sunday morning. The forecast called for rain all day Saturday, but somehow we got really lucky and the rain didn't start until around 8:20 Sunday morning. Gene broke down the tent and got everything safely packed away just in time!

Gene was supposed to go sailing Sunday afternoon, but it was cancelled at the last minute due to the iffy weather on the bay. We decided that we couldn't spend such a beautiful day inside, so we ventured down to Kemah for Boo on the Boardwalk. We had a great time, but unfortunately, they really didn't have any of their Halloween activities set up.

It was chilly when we arrived! We explored the boardwalk since the boys had never been to Kemah.

We bought some food to feed the fish, but the seagulls are fast and aggressive and none of our food even made it into the water!

Will is laughing at the seagulls here.

Gene's favorite spot for lunch is the Flying Dutchman.

Henry was starving and needed a pre-lunch cracker.

The playground was right next to our table.

After lunch, we visited the Stingray Reef and got to feed the stingrays!

Henry loved that the stingrays gobbled the fish he gave them!

After visiting the stingrays, we found the only "Halloween" event, which was Creepy Creatures on the plaza.

Henry held this python named John Lemon.

We ended our day with a couple of games:  remote controlled boats

and fishing! The boys both came home with red stuffed bears.

Our weekend was jam-packed but so full of fun. I just love that my family is always up for an adventure!
