Vermont 2015: Day 4

On our last day in Vermont, we drove to the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum near Vergennes, where we learned all about maritime history on Lake Champlain.

Gene at the Westport Marina Winch House.

Heading down to the lake to check out the boats.

This is a replica of the 1776 gunboat Philadelphia, which was sunk during the Battle of Lake Champlain on October 11, 1776. Benedict Arnold, at this point still an American general, commanded a motley crew in the Navy and lost the battle and control of Lake Champlain. The troops retreated south to Fort Ticonderoga. The military history was fascinating, especially after our recent visit to Fort Ticonderoga.

Playing with the cousins on the pirate ship.

We watched a glass-blowing demonstration too.

After lunch, we headed back to our rental house for some downtime. We stopped to check out the Quinlan Bridge, built in 1849.

Gene took the boys on one last adventure on the 12 acres at the rental house.

We ended our day with some beach time and a picnic at Shelburne Town Beach.

We had a wonderful time in Vermont and can't wait for our next visit!
