May Celebrations

For anyone with school-aged kids, May is as busy as December, without the pretty lights, Christmas carols, or cold weather.  This May was no exception! We hosted several parties at our house, celebrated our 15th anniversary, and toasted Pop on his birthday.

Will gave up birthday parties three years ago and never wants to have anyone over to the house, so we were shocked when he decided to host a "Magic the Gathering" gathering for his buddies.  Magic is THE card game of choice among his friends, and he planned out a draft and crafted all the details of the party.  Check out the Magic cards he designed for the food!  He has a computer program he uses and he created twelve different cards.

We had a huge spread and the eight boys at the gathering had a blast.  They played Magic for four hours and, while it was loud, there was no arguing and minimal screen time.

I also hosted my library volunteers at our house for my final library volunteer appreciation brunch.  Unfortunately for me, school was cancelled due to severe storms on the day I had originally planned to host the party, so we postponed the brunch by one week.  The downside was that I had tons of food prepped...

the upside was that we had an entire mushroom quiche (and more) to ourselves.

And book club spread -- book club was also postponed a week due to the poor weather.

Gene and I celebrated our fifteenth anniversary on May 22 with dinner at Antica Osteria.

I ate about two bites of this chocolate mousse cake before packing it up to take home to share with the boys.  After dinner, we visited Brazos Bookstore. We have been visiting bookstores on our anniversary for years!

Pop's birthday is also in May, and we were able to get together with the whole family for a celebration.

Gene got Pop a series of wines that describe him:  federalist, storyteller and velvet devil!

Hugs for Pop!

Henry insists on squeezing his big body into this tiny car and driving around. It makes us laugh every time he does it!

May is busy, but there is always so much to celebrate!  Now we can celebrate the end of another busy school year and relax into summer.
