Snow Way! A Snow Day in Houston

The last time it snowed in Houston was 2009, but every year since then, the boys have asked when it would snow again. When you live in a semi-tropical climate, snow is just magical, and Henry had been talking about it a lot this year. We told him snow was pretty unlikely, and then last Friday morning, I woke up to this on my phone:

I literally squealed, flung open the curtains and watched the snow falling in our backyard. I immediately woke Gene, who wasn't sure that snow was more important than sleep. But we knew we had to wake up the boys, despite the early hour. When I told Henry, he thought it was part of his dream at first.

The boys got dressed so fast, grabbed coats and gloves and hats, and trundled outside to a magical winter wonderland.

We were all utterly delighted!

We headed to the backyard

to make snowballs.

Ruby didn't know what to make of the snow at first, but in the end, she adored it and ate as much of it as she could.

After a mini snowball fight (see the evidence on Henry's cap),

the boys came inside to warm up with hot cocoa

and a breakfast of soft-boiled eggs and toast.

Henry said last Friday was the best day of his life! Snow, apparently, even makes school bearable.
