A Saturday Adventure: Sea Center Texas and Brazos Bend State Park

We found ourselves with a completely free Saturday, which is very rare at our house, so we loaded up the car and headed south for a little adventure. Our first stop was Sea Center Texas, a small aquarium, fish hatchery, and nature center in Lake Jackson, about an hour south of our house.

The boys loved the touch pool. We saw lightning whelks, blue crabs, anemones, baby fish, and so much more. The volunteers were extremely knowledgeable and because it wasn't crowded, they could really talk with us a lot!

Then we moved on to the other aquarium exhibits where we saw flounder, a bonnethead shark, a moray eel, dogfish and more.

Outside the aquarium is a wetland area (a one-acre salt marsh and a three-acre freshwater marsh) that is full of birds, dragonflies, butterflies, and other creatures.

It was absolutely beautiful!

We really enjoyed our visit to Sea Center Texas! Our next stop, for our hungry munchkins, was lunch in Angleton at a local restaurant. Then it was off to Brazos Bend State Park for some hiking! Before our hike, we stopped in at the Visitor's Center, where we saw these moving jaws of an alligator and a crocodile.

We met and touched a baby alligator!

Then we were off on our first hike around Creekfield Lake.

It was a gorgeous, sunny, cool fall day -- just perfect for being outside! The scenery was gorgeous and we took lots and lots of pictures.

Will declared the 1/2 mile walk around Creekfield Lake "not a real hike," so we added on a hike to Elm Lake and then back to the Visitor's Center on the Pliant Slough Trail. I think we covered almost two miles.

And we saw THREE alligators:  one small one and two really big ones.

It was definitely a "real" hike through the woods!

I'm so glad our free fall day turned into a wonderful Saturday adventure in the great outdoors.
