Washington-Alaska 2019: Seattle and Snoqualmie Falls

Our summer vacation this year took us to Washington and Alaska for two weeks of fun and adventure. We packed for a city exploring, an Alaskan cruise, and hiking at Mount Rainier, so we had a lot of different clothes in our suitcases. Freyja helped supervise.

We made it to Seattle ahead of schedule and went straight to our hotel. We stayed very close to the Space Needle with plenty of dinner options (Thai food all the time!) near the hotel.

On our first full day in Seattle, we headed east to Snoqualmie Falls.  On the way, we found a farm stand with Rainier cherries.  We bought a huge bag and ate them like candy.

Snoqualmie Falls is one of the most-visited natural sites in Washington. We hiked down to the bottom of the falls.

Going down was the easy part!

It was beautiful and we just really enjoyed being outside!

After hiking the falls, we stopped at a fish hatchery

before finding lunch at Resonate Brewery in Bellevue.

Back in Seattle, we visited The Elliott Bay Book Company (a great indie bookstore -- the first of seven bookstores we visited on the trip).

We wanted to head back to our hotel at this point because we were all exhausted, but we had to switch rooms and our new suite wasn't ready, so we visited the Center for Wooden Boats.

And then we picked up Gramma and Grampa and headed to the Olympic Sculpture Park.  The park is home to huge sculptures and is right on the water.

This was my favorite:  Love and Loss by Roy McMackin.

Even the benches were art.

We had a very full day but saw so much of Seattle.  In the evening, Gene went out to meet up with some of his college buddies at a Beer Festival.

While Gene was out, the boys and I walked across the street for dinner at a biergarten/creperie.

What a perfect first day in Seattle!
