Scotland 2018: Day 7

On Day 7, we headed to the Isle of Skye! For most of our trip, we stayed in AirBnbs (they work out so much better for us than hotels). We spent two nights in this cozy cabin in the tiny village of Achmore, just off the Isle of Skye. It was perfect and beautiful!

Gene made the boys bacon rolls for breakfast, while I ate my muesli and yogurt.

And then it was on to Skye!

The island is pretty big, so we focused on the western and southern parts. Our first stop was Dunvegan Castle, home of the Clan Macleod. It is also the oldest continually-inhabited castle in Scotland!

The gardens are spectacular!

So many beautiful flowers

And a waterfall!

The sheep really all over the Isle of Skye. Most were inside fences but we did come across a number trying to cross the road.

After visiting the castle, we drove back south to Carbost so we could visit the Talisker Distillery. We stumbled upon a beautiful spot for lunch, right on Loch Harport.

And then on to Talisker, where we learned all about how whisky is made.

Finally, we visited the Fairy Pools, which are really magical.

After a full day on Skye, the boys still somehow had energy, so they ran around the yard

while Gene whipped up a simple but tasty dinner!

We really had a magical time on Skye, and now that we're back in Houston, Henry keeps bemoaning the fact that we're not in Scotland anymore.
