California 2015: Day 4

After three days at Disneyland, we headed south to San Diego, but not before breakfast at IHOP, the boys' new favorite restaurant!

Henry finally has a very wiggly bottom tooth after eating a Granny Smith apple at Disneyland!

We only had two things on the agenda for Wednesday: hiking at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve and a visit to the Birch Aquarium. Torrey Pines is a beautiful park just north of San Diego.

Lots of folks were out enjoying the beautiful day.

We found an cactus (all parts are edible, Henry informed us)

and hiked along down the Beach Trail and back up the Razorback Trail.

Beautiful ocean views!

After lunch at a nearby cafe, we visited the Birch Aquarium at Scripps.

Have I mentioned that Henry is obsessed with sea turtles? This loggerhead is at the aquarium because its back legs are lame.

This boy was so excited to see a sea turtle!

We also found this little blue-spotted jawfish that was busily burrowing down into its hole and then spitting out sand. It was fascinating to watch.

Touch pools outside.

The Birch Aquarium is known for its sea horses.

On our way out, we visited the Boundess Energy play area.

We didn't manage to escape without some purchases at the gift shop -- turtle books and t-shirts for the boys and a little wooden sea turtle for Henry.

After our day's adventures, we headed to our hotel on Coronado Island and enjoyed a well-deserved pizza and refreshing local beer after a busy day sightseeing.
