Christmas Break

I love Christmas break for so many reasons, but one of the biggest is that Gene usually is off work for a good 12 days. We have so much fun together as a family. Here are some pictures from our winter holidays.

We went to Gene's office to deliver Cub Scout popcorn to Daddy's coworkers.

One chilly day, we went to see Frozen, which we thought was just okay. The boys enjoyed the huge movie displays in the lobby. See Henry's face in the Lego cut-out?

Henry made his wishlist for Santa.

Gene is always baking. He offered to make stollen. a sweet German yeast bread filled with dried fruit and nuts, for me. It just wouldn't be Christmas without stollen!

The boys devoured it.

Gene also baked other breads with his new flours and equipment that he got for Christmas. This rye-whole wheat bread used Aunt Jess's starter and was formed in a round brotform.

Delicious bread!

Gene also made baguettes with his new baguette pan.

On another day, Gene made Danish aebleskivers, which are basically fried pancake balls. Yum!

The boys spent hours play with their new toys. Hexbugs are a hit!

Nana and Pop came over to show the boys exactly how to use their new microscope.

Little scientists!

Christmas guns -- need I say more?

We had some very chilly days

and a fire in the fireplace seemed like a good idea for most of the break!

We enjoyed local Christmas beer

and the company of good friends, who came over to watch the UH bowl game.

We spent New Year's Eve at our usual kid-friendly party, complete with sparklers.

We visited the new chemistry hall at the science museum.

And then before we knew it, winter break was over and my boys were bundled up, ready to head back to school for the spring semester.

Christmas break was busy, full of time with friends and family, just exactly the way it should be.
