Lately: Cowboy Hats, Art, and the Prom

Our weekend was fairly quiet and relaxed, but the last two weeks have been full of art, cowboy hats, soccer and a big party.

The boys had their last Hands On Art session of the year last week. With a nod to the Impressionism exhibit at the MFAH, the kids painted still lifes in the style of Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

Gene's drawing class is still going well, and he has moved on from drawing eggs and cylinder people to drawing paper sacks. I think he's talented!

Tuesday night was the super-hero themed Art Night at the school.

ArtNight

The boys made shields,

swords,

and capes, and generally had a wonderful time.

They had some fun in the photo booth.

Last Friday was Go Texan Day,

so we donned cowboy hats with the rest of Houston.

Gene and I got dressed up too, but not in cowboy gear. Last Friday was the first V&E prom in about five years, and Gene couldn't decide if he should go in his kilt

or his new tux. The new tux, which fit better, finally won out.

The prom was at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, and was an over-the-top blow-out. I heard there were 1700 guests, about 1/3 of whom are former employees and their spouses, like us. There were two bands plus Scottish bagpipes, a DJ, a dance floor, aerial silk acrobats, plus plenty of food, drink and good company.

We found a photo booth too!

This was my favorite station.

I found the flip-flops just in time!

Henry is back at soccer again, though we've missed half our sessions due to rain or travel.

Since we missed the first game due to the Cub Scout campout, we made sure to be there for game #2. We didn't get the official ruling, but we think our team name this season is the Red Hot Hot Wheels.

And I'll leave you with one final picture of Henry,

just because it makes me smile.
