Henry's Sixth Birthday

Henry turned SIX years old on Friday. This year, his birthday fell over spring break, so Gene took a day off from work and we planned a day full of fun activities and family time.

Henry requested Swedish pancakes for breakfast.

We told Henry he wasn't officially six until 9:06 a.m., so he watched the clock and counted down til the hour of his birth!

SIX!

As soon as Henry was really six, we loaded up the car and headed off for a morning hike at Jesse Jones Nature Park in Humble. We hadn't been up there in five years. It was a beautiful day for a hike!

Henry brought along his brand new binoculars.

The redbud trees are in bloom right now -- I think I want one in my backyard!

My boys.

We saw this huge bumblebee, dragonflies, butterflies, red-eared slider turtles and birds on our walk.

 Cypress swamp.

After nearly 3 miles, the boys were pooped and ready to head out for lunch.

Since we were in Humble, we decided to eat at Tin Roof BBQ in Atascocita. It's still our favorite barbeque restaurant in Houston and we don't get up there very often.

My big boy.

After filling our bellies with delicious barbeque, the boys played hard on the playground.

Back at home, Henry requested computer games and then he and I walked down to Crave for birthday cupcakes.

It was so pretty out that we all played in the backyard.

For dinner, Henry requested cauliflower mac and cheese with coleslaw, which we ate outside on our picnic table. Then it was time for cupcakes!

Will pulled out his snap circuits and set it up to play "Happy Birthday!"

Finally, it was time to open presents.

Henry got a set of 10 Mr. Men books from us plus Mr. Birthday from Will and was beyond thrilled.

Love his expressions!

These are currently his favorite books,

so he headed right over to the park bench to start reading Mr. Tickle.

We all love this boy so much and had such a fantastic day celebrating our wonderful, amazing, big SIX year old!
