On Day 6 in Scotland, we headed north towards the Isle of Skye. Along the way, we knew we wanted to stop in the Glen Coe area of the Highlands. The glen is quite long and was formed by volcanoes. It is also the site of the Massacre of Glencoe (1692) during which 38 members of the Clan MacDonald were massacred by government forces. Today, the region is gorgeous and filled with hiking trails. We chose a short hike from the Glencoe Visitor's Center.
More purple foxglove flowers
Our next stop was to Eilean Donan Castle, a 13th-century castle just off the Isle of Skye.
By the time we arrived, the clouds had rolled in and it was chilly and looked exactly like what I though Scotland would look like.
Dramatic, moody Scotland
Next up, the Isle of Skye!
