We said goodbye to Edinburgh on our fourth day in Scotland, picked up our rental car, and headed west to Stirling Castle, arriving shortly after they opened. It was cloudy and chilly but the castle wasn't crowded and it was my favorite (of the seven) castles we visited on this trip.
Henry was freezing cold, so we started inside with the exhibits before visiting the beautiful gardens and exploring the rest of the castle.
Views from the castle
The castle has been restored to how it would have looked in the 1540s, and it was gorgeous.

We saved the kitchen for last.
By the time we left, the clouds have parted and we had beautiful sunny skies.

After leaving Stirling Castle, we headed west to Loch Lommond, but our maps app decided to put us on a different track, so we were slightly detoured through Loch Lubnaig, which was fine because it was beautiful.
We made it over to Loch Lommond and found some short trails that were recommended to us at the visitors center. We found these gorgeous lady's glove flowers all over the place.

Our destination was a cute B&B in Connel, a tiny seaside town. Our hosts made dinner reservations for us and sent us on a shortcut to the restaurant, which avoided the highway but put us in the path of wandering cows, which we did find after getting lost yet again!
Dinner was delicious -- seafood chowder for Henry, mussels for Will, seafood pie for me.
It was another lovely beautiful day in an incredible country!
