Scotland 2018: Day 5

The next day, we were up and out of the B&B bright and early to catch the early ferry to the Isle of Mull.

Gene had never been to Mull before, but some of his ancestors came from there and it was on his must-see list. And it was beautiful! Once on the island, we encountered single track roads and otter-crossng signs along the way to Tobermory.

Our first stop was the visitors center, where we got directions for the 3-mile Tobermory Lighthouse walk.

So pretty! We lucked out with fantastic weather the whole trip.

Back in the village, we had a quick lunch and stopped at the Tobermory Distillery store.

And then we were went to Duart Castle, home to the Clan Maclean!

The Isle of Mull Gaelic Choir was performing while were there. Gene had this marked on our itinerary, but we didn't know the timing, so we were lucky to arrive 15 minutes before their performance. They were amazing and we came home with their CD, which has been playing on repeat every since!

We found more cows (aka, hairy heilan coo).

And we made it back to the ferry well in advance of our departure time. Gene and Henry went exploring, Will read, and I fell fast asleep (darn Dramamine -- even the "less drowsy" version knocks me right out!). Gene was kind enough to snap a lovely picture of me snoozing in our very nice rental car (we somehow ended up with a MBZ SUV, which was familiar to drive even though everything was on the wrong side!). I have no idea why I have my seatbelt on when we were literally parked waiting to get on the ferry. #safetyfirst

I woke up just in time to get out of the car and up to the top of the ferry. Gene snapped a few last pictures of the Isle of Mull.

This was one of our longer days as we were bound by the ferry schedules, but the Isle of Mull was definitely worth it. What a gorgeous island!
