Washington-Alaska 2019: Juneau

Our second port of call was Juneau. We had planned to just hike trails at the Mendenhall Glacier and explore the town, but at the last minute, we decided to add on a whale watching tour for Henry.

Our first stop was the Mendenhall Glacier. We hiked from the visitor's center to Nugget Falls.

It was really quite spectacular (and cold!).

After about an hour and a half at the glacier, we hopped on board our bus to head to our whale watching excursion.

Gene and the boys had never been whale watching before and we saw many humpbacks, including two mother-baby pairs.

The whales were spectacular and one of the highlights of our trip for this kiddo.

After whale watching, we only had about 30 minutes to explore Juneau, so of course we hightailed it to the town's two bookstores.  We had promised Will we'd look for Magic cards, and sure enough, we found them at a comic shop in downtown.

Back on board the Legend, we all enjoyed some downtime.  Gene and Henry played shuffle board and sketched while Will and I read.

Juneau was a neat little town and I only wish we'd had more time there!
