Washington-Alaska 2019: Cruising and the Tracy Arm Fjord

On Tuesday, July 16, we set off on a cruise to Alaska to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. We had planned this trip for a year and a half!

Leaving Seattle

Sodas on the Lido deck is a cruising tradition!

Our first day was a sea day, so we read, explored the ship, and played music trivia. Gene holed up in the library to do some work and sent the boys on a number of adventures to explore the ship.

Gramma and Grampa had fun dancing during music trivia time.

On Thursday, we entered the Tracy Arm Fjord,

where we saw so many humpback whales!

We decided to go on a catamaran excursion to see the Sawyer Glaciers up close.  It was an incredible excursion, and we saw bald eagles and harbor seals.  The water was a beautiful jade color.

This is one of the many cascades we saw on the excursion.

Icebergs with wispy clouds

It was so cold! The tour offered free coffee and tea, which helped keep us warm.

We saw two glaciers -- the North and South Sawyer Glaciers

The crew brought on board a bit of a iceberg, which they used in drinks.

Our catamaran trip to see the twin glaciers gave us incredible up-close views!

Back on board the Legend that night, we celebrated Gramma and Grampa's anniversary at dinner.

What a great start to our Alaskan adventure!
