Each spring, going strawberry picking at Wood Duck Farm is on the top of my must-do list. With clear skies and not-to-hot temps, last Saturday was the perfect day for an outing to the farm.
We have been buying produce from Wood Duck Farm for at least 7 years. We were longtime CSA customers when we lived in the 'burbs, but nowadays, we just search out Van's stand at the Eastside Farmers Market each Saturday morning. And of course we head to the farm to do some strawberry picking each spring.
The farm had seen a fair bit of rain last week, so we had to search harder this year for good strawberries -- they would look perfect on top only to be rotten on the underside. We knew this going in, and we still managed to come home with 11 pounds of juicy red berries.
Strawberry fields forever
Heritage red wattle piggies!
We packed a delicious picnic lunch to eat on the farm and then the boys played on the playground for a bit.
This kid can't go anywhere without a book.
We've frozen most of the berries, made a couple of quarts of jam, and baked a strawberry crumble. Strawberry season is one of my favorites, and Wood Duck Farm is a lovely place to spend a morning.
