January has been a busy month for us. We're back at school and in our routines, but that means our evenings and weekends are full of school projects, Cub Scout events and squeezing in time outside when the weather is nice. Here's a peek into some of what we've been up to lately:
Will had the great idea to play miniature golf a couple weekends ago, so we found a place just south of us and spent an hour playing together.
After putt putt, we treated ourselves to Mongolian Hot Pot (our first time!) for lunch. It was delicious and we all enjoyed the simmering soups on a chilly day. A bonus was that the restaurant was just a block away from the Fish Gallery, where we headed next to pick up our eleven new fish!
Will loves to make origami projects. This is his fall harvest scene. If you look closely, you can see grapes, acorns, morning glories, and a fox.
He also likes to make hats for Freyja, who is less than impressed.
Projects, projects, projects! Henry has been working hard on his Caldecott project for school (note Freyja sitting right on the book!), all three boys made cars for the Pinewood Derby, and Will has been reading for Name That Book and working on an expository project for his homeroom teacher.
Henry built this tower out of Lincoln logs while visiting Gramma and Grampa on over the weekend.
The boys had an early release day last Friday, so we visited the zoo's new "Washed Ashore" exhibit. The art works in the exhibit are made from trashed items that washed ashore on Galveston beaches. So much trash!
The exhibit is amazingly beautiful but also incredibly sad at the same time. Sea creatures eat so much plastic because we humans don't properly dispose of or recycle our trash.
We're trying to do our part at home by reducing, reusing and recycling, but the boys have really taken to picking up litter on the streets and disposing of it. Every little bit helps!
