Welcome to Summer!

School's out for summer! First and third grade are DONE!

The last couple of days were packed with end-of-the-year fun. Henry's class went to "Camp Read-a-Lot" on Wednesday. We tie-dyed class shirts last week especially for camp, and they turned out really well.

Camp had originally been scheduled for Tuesday, but with school canceled, camp was moved to Wednesday. The kiddos spent the whole day reading and snacking. We all sent care packages with the kids; Henry's had a new book, letters from all of us, and disassembled s'mores for a snack. What a fun day in first grade!

The kids also celebrated the end of the school year with a dance party in the cafeteria. It was a madhouse with over 200 kids bouncing and dancing!

Here's one final picture of Henry and his sweet teacher, Ms. Perkins. He had a great first grade year!

Will's ice cream/dance party was also on Tuesday. It was less chaotic that the first grade party. The boys mostly did the conga line.

My favorite third-grader with his ice cream.

Look who stopped by the party!

Here's Will with his teacher, Mrs. McClintock, on the last day of school. Third grade was a great year for him!

School dismissed at 12:15 yesterday. The boys and I popped in to Little Matt's for lunch (along with half of WUES!) and then grabbed a few books at the library before heading home for our third annual Welcome to Summer party.

It's not so much a party as a celebration of the end of the school year and beginning of summer break. We spend a lot of time reading in the summer so I get each boy some new books to get them started. Normally I make a cake, but I ran out of time this year and picked up cupcakes (red velvet for Will, chocolate coconut for Henry) at Crave instead.

Will was easy to shop for this year. He is really into the Pendragon series, so I got him the first five books along with Sideways Arithmetic from Wayside School and Spy Mad Libs.

Will loved his new books!

Henry is harder to shop for. He adores the Harry Potter series and is almost done with #6, but is convinced that nothing will compare. I listened to recommendations from friends and got him the first in the Ranger's Apprentice and Seven Wonders series. I also picked up The Lemonade War, a sea turtles book (the boy is obsessed with turtles) and Ninja Mad Libs.

The sea turtles book was a huge hit!

The boys have worked so hard this year at school and we are so looking forward to the long summer break. We have lots of fun planned!
