The boys' school held its annual Open House yesterday, on what was perhaps the stormiest evening in months! Despite our umbrellas, we all were soaked heading into school, but it was worth the drenching to see the boys' classrooms and all their hard work. As always, they were so excited to show us everything!
We started in Henry's classroom, which has the most amazing jungle theme,
including these incredible painted murals inside the room. Check out the class library!
The jungle theme was carried out into the hallway for the first published work of the year.
All the kids had a monkey that they filled out with what they want to learn in kindergarten. Henry wants to learn how to subtract and multiply!
My big kindergartner.
His teacher had an adorable bingo game card for the kids and parents to work on together. Once they completed the tasks, like showing us their Banana Bucks, jobs, graphs and the like, they got a prize. The kids are studying plants right now, so Henry showed me his flowerpot,
his parts of flower picture,
and his lima bean plant!
The three of us were very wet but very happy too!
And here's one last shot of Henry and his sweet teacher.
Next up, we headed to the second grade hall to visit Will's room. We had to check out the published work in the corridor. The theme was "Who do you think you are?" and the students had to find and cut out adjectives from magazines, draw a portrait and write about themselves using the descriptive words they found. It was a fun project!
Heading into the classroom, we checked out the We Are Family display.
Will's hexagon shows that he likes his tablet, the piano, Icees, California and lions.
Inside, Will showed up his postcard about summer vacation (he chose to write about the Canterbury Shaker Village in New Hampshire),
Will "by the number,"
and his picture dictionary of school words, which he worked really, really hard on!
Open house is such a fun opportunity to visit the classrooms where the boys spend the majority of their days now that they are both so big, and to see all the projects, big and small, that I hear about on a daily basis.
