I do not have picky eaters, and for that I am oh-so-thankful. My kids will eat just about anything, but they truly are more likely to eat a new food if they help pick it out or if they help prepare it. A couple of weeks ago, we saw beautiful Brussels sprouts at the local farmers' market and Will really wanted to try them. The boys haven't had them before but Will was insistent that we buy them (and anyway, he was touching them all so we definitely had to bring some home). So that night I made broiled salmon with a cucumber-yogurt sauce, whole wheat orzo, and roasted Brussels sprouts and carrots. YUM-O! It was so good. Even Gene loved it and he doesn't really care for salmon or Brussels sprouts! Here are the boys' plates:
Will dug right in. He loved those Brussels sprouts and even asked for seconds.
Okay, I have to admit that Henry wasn't a huge fan of the Brussels sprouts, but he ate everything else. We'll try Brussels sprouts again another week.
And in the words of Jane Yolen in How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food?, remember to "Try every new thing, at least one small bite!" Who knows, you might discover you love roasted Brussels sprouts too!
