Lately: Scouts, Art Night, Stargazing and Some Ninja Moves

Here's a peak into what we've been up to lately:

Will earned his Bear Badge in Cub Scouts this month and received it during last week's den meeting. He was one of the first Bears to complete the badge requirements this year and it was a lot of work! We are so proud of Will!

Thursday night was Art Night at school. The boys worked on all sorts of art projects.

We've also been putting Henry's new telescope to good use. We checked out the moon's craters on Friday night. Both boys rushed in the house to tell me all about it!

And finally, check out our little ninja. Henry has been wearing his costume non-stop, and he loves to practice his ninja moves.

Up next: pics from Henry's ninja party!

Celebrating the March Birthdays

Last weekend, we celebrated the March birthdays at Nana and Pop's house.

Little Michael is four!

Henry is seven!

Jess also has a March birthday. Michael loved singing to his mama.

Nana made dinosaur cupcakes for everyone.

Yum!

Bouncing with Pop.

Time for presents!

Our present for Michael was all our old Thomas the Train tracks, buildings and trains. He was so excited!

Happy birthday to all the March babies out there!

Henry's Seventh Birthday

Henry turned SEVEN years old last Saturday! He woke up bright-eyed and ready to start the day well before the sun came up.

We let him open his big present from us first thing.

Realizing what is is...

his first telescope! We researched it a lot and settled on the FunScope as a good introductory scope for kids and adults. Henry has really been into astronomy lately.

After opening his first gift, we stuck a candle in a stack of pancakes and sang to our big 7-year-old.

Saturday was a dreary, rainy day, so Henry opted to visit the science museum. We got there first thing since we knew it would be crowded (and it was!). We explored the animals, dinosaurs, and butterfly center and then watched "Life in the Universe" at the planetarium.

This boy loves to get bugs out of the vending machine in the butterfly center. He chose cheddar cheese flavored larvae!

Will got some too!

After lunch, the boys played video games with Gene, and then Henry and Gene ran a couple of important errands (getting cupcakes from Crave). Henry requested dinner out at Tokyohana (aka, the Restaurant with Fire).

Back home, we enjoyed cupcakes from Crave and sang again to the birthday boy.

The evening ended with a star party at the Arboretum, which was unfortunately a bust because of all the rain and cloud cover. Still, we had a fantastic day celebrating our big seven-year-old boy and some of his favorite things!

Spring Break

Spring break was full and fun and exactly the break from the busy-ness of school that we all needed. We also lucked out with pretty spring weather for most of the break!

After our camping trip on Sunday and Monday, Gene was back at work on Tuesday, but the boys and I were out and about. We visited the Health Museum to see sheep brain and heart dissections! Both boys read before the dissections started.

Very cool! We learned all about the brain and the heart.

After a picnic lunch, we spent the rest of the day running errands, relaxing and heading out for an evening bike ride.

On Wednesday, we were back in the Museum District for lunch at the MFAH and a free showing of Looney Tunes in their theater. Gene even met us for lunch and the show. The boys love Looney Tunes!

After the show, we watched a weaving demonstration in the lobby.

We spent Thursday morning running and exploring at Hermann Park before watching the Walking with Dinosaurs IMAX movie at the science museum. The museum was packed for spring break but we were really just there for the movie, so the crowds didn't bother us too much.

We found a ladybug that was half red and half yellow.

Friday saw us back in the Museum District, where we parked the car and then rode the lightrail down to the Rodeo. Gene was supposed to be off but ended up having to work all day, so he missed the Rodeo fun.

When we got to the Rodeo, we explored Agventure. Henry was especially enamored of all the chicks.

We watched this one hatch!

We visited "Fun on the Farm" and watched some pig races before the carnival opened, and then the kids rode the rides. This was their favorite part, of course!

Spring break was a blast and we are already looking ahead to summer fun!
